Round-up!..
Mission Innovation, a coalition of 23 governments, are to announce four new ‘innovation missions’.
The countries will work together towards these missions in the hopes of accelerating the development of clean technologies. Mission Innovation’s ‘innovation missions’ currently cover sectors responsible for more than 50% of global emissions including shipping, and clean hydrogen production. In a statement on their website:
“Mission Innovation is forming new public-private innovation alliances – Missions – that will catalyse global action behind ambitious and inspirational innovation goals that will lead to tipping points in the cost and scale of clean energy solutions.”
Aker Presents Massive Offshore Wind-to-Hydrogen Project at COP26
The wind refinery will produce zero-carbon energy solutions for both local and global use. Production will include ammonia, liquid hydrogen, and synthetic fuels.
Aker Offshore Wind said in a press release. According to the company, enough liquid hydrogen will be produced to power 40 per cent of the total mileage of local UK buses, as well as enough synthetic fuel to make 750 round trips from the UK to New York.
Rolls-Royce to develop small nuclear reactors to generate cleaner energy.
New investment into Rolls-Royce’s SMR will go towards developing small modular nuclear fission reactors, that are smaller than conventional ones.
the funding will take them through the regulatory processes that will decide if it is suitable to be used across the UK.
They will also be identifying sites that will manufacture the reactors’ parts with large investment expected in the north of the UK, where there is existing nuclear expertise.
